Kim is board certified through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as both a Licensed Massage Therapist and CEU provider. She is one of only a handful of local massage therapists to have met this board’s rigorous standards, and holds licenses in both California and Arizona.
Kim is a also a specialist in strength and conditioning with the International Sports Science Association (ISSA).
Kim opened her first practice, Massage for Peak Performance, in 2006, specializing in addressing and preventing sports injuries in athletes competing in a wide range of sports at recreational, competitive, Olympic and professional levels. She has received hundreds of referrals from local physicians for her work in myo-fascial pain management.
“Sports massage and medical massage are very similar. How injuries occur varies, but the same methods are used to treat soft tissue injuries regardless of etiology, with individual variations of course. I believe the two types of massage go hand in hand. I was trained in Florida, where massage therapy is considered a medical modality, and massage therapists carry a medical license. I have always felt that massage is a valid medical treatment for managing a wide range of pathologies. My methods are validated by studies at The Touch Research Institute at The University of Miami Medical Center, and research by Mark Hyman Rapaport PHD, author of ‘Massage Wants to be Medicine’. I founded BODYSMART because I believe that Californians deserve to receive quality medical massage treatment, and be able to spend health insurance allocated funds to pay for it.”
Kali is an intuitive licensed massage therapist having trained locally at Kali Institute of Somatic Therapy. While residing in Hawaii she added new healing modalities to her skill set. There on the Big Island, Kali honed her skills in Thai massage at the Kalani community in Kalapana Hawaii. She’s been a healer and energy worker since the age of 8 years old and is currently REIKI 1 and 2 attuned. She began her professional career over 5 years ago working at her own practice. Kali has a deep passion for helping people restore physical and spiritual balance back into their daily lives. She brings a fresh transformative quality to the BODYSMART office.
The BODYSMART Difference
All therapists at BODYSMART have a minimum of 3 years of massage experience and each have unique specializations. They participate in monthly continuing education training by Kim and other medical professionals in various medical modalities and evidence-based advances in massage therapy. Your bodywork sessions are treated as medical appointments; each patient has a medical chart and a specific treatment plan. With a physician recommendation, these sessions can be paid for using Health Savings Account (HSA) or FLEX account funds, and some companies provide direct reimbursement for medical massage sessions. In many cases, medically necessary treatments may be applied towards health insurance deductibles. Learn more about reimbursement for medical massage here.
